One of the best decisions i’ve ever made, when it comes to time and productivity, was upgrade my internet connection. When i first moved a few years ago to where i currently reside, my options were not only limited but very overpriced for what they offered. I’m sure that’s nothing new to anyone from the US actually, so i’m probably preaching to the choir. My speeds were terrible and any possible upgrades were too little to even bother with.

Recently my ISP started offering what they call business class residential. I took that as just a fancy way of saying they finally caught up to some of the better areas of the country as far as speed and prices are concerned. What that entailed was a 100/10 connection for $80 a month. Now i’m not sure how that measures up to the rest of the US as far as speed/price is concerned, but that’s a pretty good price compared to what i was getting for the price i was paying. I’m sure it may just sound terrible to some, even one of my buddies commented so, but it’s perfect for me. It’s not like i have better options haha.

While the download speed is obviously great for any sort of streaming or large file downloads such as games, i was more interested in the ever elusive upload speed. It completely trivialized my video uploads to YouTube, which was a major part of my time spent creating content. I went from an average of 3-5 hours uploading a ten minute video down to 25 minutes. Some of that is due to my high render settings and file sizes, but the amount of time i save now is ridiculous. I can now get a video out right after a raid instead of having to spend all night uploading while i sleep. You could say i’m not really saving time if i’d be sleeping anyway, but now i don’t have to wait until that time to get content out. It’s amazing!

The next great benefit to my new found amazement is that i now have the ability to stream. I’ve been reluctant to do so until recently simply due to the terrible settings i was requires to use just to be able to do it. I didn’t see a point in continuing if no one could make out what the hell was happening while i was playing. Now that i can do it, i hope to more frequently. While i might still be quite new to it, i do enjoy the interaction more than i thought i would. In the future, i’m hoping to get on some sort of schedule if possible. Chances are i’ll still wing it like i do with most things though. Emmett Fitz-Hume would sure be enjoying himself. I know i am.
