We Now Return to Our Regularly Scheduled Programming

TV

Blaugust is officially over after today and i am so absolutely relieved. As someone who posts maybe three times a week on a good week, this month has been extremely stressful for me. Making sure i got some sort of play time in so i have something to post about every day is not normal for me anymore. Ten years ago i was probably on some MMO or another for 6-8 hours a day every day after work. I had so much content worth of material that i didn’t know what to do with. Now that i’m older i value my free time more and i sometimes just want to unplug and get away from everything interwebs related, including gaming. Everyone is different and I think i’ve found a good balance that works for me. That means posting less and playing less but that’s ok.

Having said that, i’m so unbelievably happy that i returned to blogging just a few months ago. It was almost as if i planned to return just in time for Blaugust but that’s not quite accurate. When i saw this event was coming up as i scrolled through my blogroll, my immediate reaction was “Oh Hell No!” The more i thought about it the more it made sense that participating this year could only help me get back into the swing of things. The stress and anxiety that always comes along with it i could deal with. I was more worried about having topics to discuss or adventures to share. After all, i wasn’t really playing anything when i decided to start blogging again.

The part of starting my blog over again that hurts the most has been deciding to move platforms a few times in the last two years. I’m so happy with WordPress that i wish i did this earlier instead of after i established my blog for almost 8 years. I’ve never been one to get a lot of viewers but i used to average 200 – 300 per day when i was on Blogger. Switching over to self hosting and then again to WordPress hosting has cut that down to around 50 a day. I’m sure my hiatus for two years didn’t help me in that regard but i’m still happy i made the switch overall. I’m slowly getting my views back which is nice, To be honest, i’m surprised anyone reads this at all. It’s just a bunch of incoherent ramblings most of the time. So thank you to who ever does.

Looking over my stats for the month there definitely seems to be a clear trend. My most popular posts are all the ones discussing my history with the genre. I guess i’m not surprised being as they’re the most difficult ones for me to write. I do have a lot more stories to share from decades past but they’ll have to wait for another time. I’m going to try my best to keep the momentum of this month going but on a more relaxed schedule that fits me better. I’m determined to not go more than a week between posts at the very least. I’ve made a habit of being really bad about that in the past so i’ll stay on myself to correct that. In the end the best motivator for me is other bloggers. Basically i’m blaming all of you if i don’t post often enough going forward. Don’t let me down! Oh and congrats on surviving BlaugustReborn.

An entire post with no images feels so wrong!
